Best Ski Apps 2026: Planning, Tracking & Navigation Compared

An honest comparison of the top ski apps. What each one does best, where they fall short, and which gaps Sheleg fills.

The Ski App Landscape in 2026

Ski apps fall into three categories: trackers that record your runs (Slopes, Ski Tracks), data providers that show snow conditions (OnTheSnow), and resort apps that work only within one network (Epic Mix, Ikon).

None of them plan your ski day or help you navigate the mountain in real time. That's the gap Sheleg fills.

App-by-App Breakdown

Slopes

Slopes is the gold standard for ski tracking. Beautiful 3D replays, detailed stats, and social leaderboards. But it's purely retrospective — it tells you where you've been, not where to go. No trip planning, no on-mountain navigation.

Ski Tracks

Reliable, battery-efficient tracking at a low price. Great for data logging but the UI feels dated. No planning features, no Watch app, limited map functionality.

Fatmap (now part of Strava)

Fatmap had stunning 3D terrain maps but was shut down after Strava acquired it. The backcountry planning tools were lost. Resort skiing was never its focus. Read our full Fatmap comparison →

Sheleg

Sheleg is the first ski app built around navigation and planning — not tracking. Set your home point and get live routing via lifts and slopes. Trip planning with time-aware itineraries is coming next. Apple Watch companion keeps navigation on your wrist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sheleg?

Sheleg is a ski trip planner and on-mountain navigation app. It helps you plan your ski days and always find the fastest way back to your car, hotel, or meeting point via lifts and slopes.

How does Take Me Back Home work?

Set a 'home' pin on the resort map — your car, hotel, or meeting point. Sheleg continuously calculates the fastest route back via open lifts and slopes, showing a live time-to-home countdown on your phone and Apple Watch.

Does Sheleg work on Apple Watch?

Yes. The Apple Watch companion shows your time-to-home and next navigation steps at a glance, so you don't need to pull out your phone on the mountain.

Does Sheleg work without internet?

Yes. Download resort data before your trip for full offline navigation. Sheleg uses GPS for positioning and pre-loaded maps for routing.

Which ski resorts does Sheleg support?

Sheleg will launch with coverage of major European and North American resorts. We're building on OpenStreetMap data, which covers thousands of ski areas worldwide.

When will Sheleg be available?

Sheleg is currently in development. Join the waitlist to be notified as soon as we launch for the upcoming ski season.
